Some of the furniture designs today do look rather plain and clumpy. I have been checking out sideboards and dining sets, with a view to a change round. The tables on offer all seem to be various shades of oak but none all the same on any table, and the table legs seem to be gross compared to the rest of the table. i notice too the imported wood for the chair legs have peculiar marks on them all the way down. The emphasis has been on mass markets and bulk manufacture through huge retail giants.
The beauty of the Art Deco period was being able to enjoy new designs made of top quality materials by craftsmen who really knew their art. The sleek lines and beautiful finish made each piecea joy to hold. The different woods were treated with utmost care and shown to their absolute best effect.
