Barcelona 2 seat Mies vd. Rohe 1929

In 1929 Barcelona hosted the Universal Exhibition and the government commissioned German architect Mies van der Rohe to create the flag representing Germany on Montjuïc during the exhibition and its furniture.

The bahaus master Mies had to create an elegant chair, comfortable and well-built. "It would be monumental (Mies 1929)." His Barcelona armchair served to the throne of the King and Queen of Spain during their visit to the pavilion. The Barcelona chair has been an icon of modernism. He takes inspirations form old models of folding chairs, where his frame is made of very fluid forms of chromed metal.

The top is made of individual leather cushions, its foam is treated against fire. This is the 2 seat version inspired by the original 1 seat version also called \"love seat\". In the same period, he also made a Barcelona stool and a Barcelona day bed.
